It comes from the classic Chinese poem. Generally, in ancient China, when it's time for a young man and woman to get married, parents should hire someone to speak good words about each other, thus promoting marriage, and this person is called 'Niang Mai'. And 'Zi Wu Liang Mai' refers to not having such a matchmaker.
