枳橘

[zhĭ jú]
It means a type of citrus, referring to the plant known as Poncirus trifoliata. It can be interpreted in two ways - one refers to unripened orange which cannot be eaten, representing bitter experiences or unattainable love. Another meaning comes from ancient saying implying talent and adaptability: when living on the north side of Huaihe, the fruit would grow into a citron that couldn't be used, and south of the Huaihe River, the tree will produce mandarin instead.
