'Lost heart' does not mean the heart is really lost physiologically but refers metaphorically. There can be two different interpretations here: One might say they are experiencing a broken heart over someone or certain situations. Alternatively, another explanation is the lack of vitality in spirit. No matter what interpretation, they imply feelings like depression, apathy, confusion, and so forth.
