北海没有猫
[bĕi hăi méi yŏu māo]
This means “There is no cat in the Beihai”. ‘Beihai’ usually refers to Beihai Park which was established as a retreat and hunting ground for Mongolian rulers and Manchu imperial family. There is, in fact, no special association with cats here so the meaning could range widely from poetic musings to whimsy or mystery.
